Overview

Barracudas is where swimmers move beyond the basics and begin to develop and refine all four competitive strokes. Athletes at this level are building the skills needed to swim with proficiency and consistently, while continuing to grow in confidence, endurance, and independence in the water.

Focus Areas

  • This group is focused on honing technique and building strong habits early.
  • Swimmers will continue refining freestyle and backstroke while learning butterfly (through dolphin kick and timing) and the foundations of breaststroke.
  • Emphasis is placed on body position, breathing, timing, and overall stroke mechanics.
  • At this level, swimmers are introduced to what it means to swim legally in a meet setting, while still prioritizing skill development over competition.

Requirements to Participate

  • Swim 100 meters freestyle with controlled breathing (every 3 strokes)
  • Perform flip turns (learning and practicing)
  • Swim 50 yards backstroke legally

Move-Up Requirements

  • 4 x 25 meters underwater
  • 4 x 25 meters underwater dolphin kicks with fins while holding breath
  • 16 x 25 meters in IM order, all strokes legal and on time
  • 12 x 50 meters freestyle on 1:30
  • 8 x 25 meters butterfly, breathing every other stroke, legal, in 1:00 or less
  • Complete 100 meters of each stroke (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly) legally
